Small Plane Crashes Into Transmission Tower in Maryland
This is the first time the MD-05, the 787-10’s predecessor, has crashed into a transmission tower. The plane is pictured below with its tail section visible. A second crash occurred this past month, when one of the two engines failed during takeoff.
All four engines failed to lift off, and the plane plummeted into the Earth, slamming into the tower at 11,000 feet, according to the Associated Press (AP).
The AP said the crash was recorded as an emergency landing in the Baltimore area. Four people survived and were transported to a nearby hospital, but two are still in critical condition.
The crash caused a fire that consumed a large portion of the tower and much of the surrounding area, according to Reuters, which says that the tower was “destroyed.”
