WATCH: Five-year-old girl dances on stage for the Miss Universe crown and honors to Erika Pagliarulo
In a perfect ending to the 52nd Miss Universe pageant, Miss India, Harnaaz Sandhu, was crowned as the winner tonight.
Sandhu, who hails from New Delhi, took a backseat to runner-up Miss Honduras, Cristy Perez. Miss Philippines didn’t even make it to the final run-off. Sandhu then proceeded to make all of our dreams come true by walking to the finish line in the Miss Universe 2018 crown, surrounded by people in saris and bindis, and on the heels of a string of appearances this year on popular television show, “Bigg Boss,” and TV show, “Woh Lagi Pehli Hum.” She even went for a traditional walk from the stage to the winner’s limo to help her reach new heights of celebrity! This was not just another achievement in Sandhu’s international fame, but she also secured the most votes from the Miss Universe Facebook and Twitter followers.

She beat the odds, having come in third place for the Miss Asia Pacific pageant in Kuala Lumpur this year. But being Miss India is often a source of pride to her country, which, because of religious discrimination, doesn’t even have any Miss Universe finalists. India’s only earlier Miss Universe was in 1973, when Babita Kumari, was also a runner-up.
Her mission now is to use her position to promote diversity and inspire people to love and accept their differences.
