Police name Toronto man charged in church sexual assaults

Toronto police say one of their most-wanted men is behind bars, arrested in relation to alleged sexual assaults that occurred at a Toronto church.

Police say 42-year-old Jeffrey Lee Nikoi of Toronto was charged with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault and three counts of assault following his arrest at a Fort Erie, Ont., rest stop.

Investigators allege that Nikoi entered two parishes in northeast Toronto between April 7, 2013, and July 27, 2013, and sexually assaulted two women while they were in church.

In one of the incidents, a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted as she left the temple, while the other alleged victim was assaulted in the church itself.

Nikoi faces nine charges in total, including two counts of sexual assault for both incidents alleged to have occurred in the temple.

Police say they have no further details at this time on the two other incidents, which are being referred to as “other matters.”

Police are encouraging any other alleged victims of Nikoi to contact them directly.
