In Cleveland, They’re Cooking Up a Gay Neighborhood From Scratch
There’s nothing like living in a place with a lot of history. In Cleveland, they’re building a gay neighborhood for the residents from the old East Side to be part of. It won’t be a neighborhood that has “Gay Street,” but it will have a neighborhood.
You’re probably a little scared to be in a place that’s so historic — a place with a history of being queer. So what do we do? In Cleveland, we’re taking the most wonderful history of Cleveland’s queer community and making a new one. If you’re queer, you’re going to love it.
When I was younger, I was pretty scared to be in a place that felt like it had a lot of history. But it’s very, very inspiring to see the progress we’ve made, what little progress we’ve made, and be part of it. This is a place that’s really cool to be — a place you can come and get lost in a little bit.
This is a neighborhood where you can walk on the streets and you know that there’s something beautiful in Cleveland that you are part of — that you are queer. This is a place that’s really cool to be — a place you can come and get lost in a little bit. Cleveland Pride is a place where you are in this place of pride. You know that’s a part of our history.
We’d be the people that we were at one point in Cleveland. We’re the people we’re going to be at one point again. We’re the people that we’re going to be at one point in the future. There is no one like you or I, so we just have to be a little bit
