The 16-year-old suspect in the shooting of 12 people at a high school in Parkland, Florida, is due to appear in court in Pennsylvania.

Sean Urbanski was arrested hours after the attack at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, in Washington County.

He faces charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The high school shootings in Parkland, which left 17 dead, and Santa Fe, Texas, where eight students and two staff were killed, have reinvigorated the debate over gun control in the US.

Addressing a rally on Wednesday, the survivor of the Parkland massacre, David Hogg, urged voters to “take our government back”.

“Mr President, maybe if you spent one minute talking to us you wouldn’t have had to spend one minute crying with your staff,” he said.

On Thursday the Parkland school shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez said she would not be silenced and would continue to campaign for gun control.

In a final message he left on Twitter, a remorseful Mr Hogg said: “While I truly hate to make this something I have to write about or something other than the school shooting, I have to.

“We continue to have our words turned back to me by President Trump’s office and Vice President Pence and Fox News… They won’t even let me have a moment.

“If we are not careful, our liberties will never be truly safe.”
